FIRST, THE POST ON YOUR BLOG
A. Title the post "GUARANTOR POWERS - SELF PORTRAIT TRIPTYCH" (copy/paste this into your title - all caps)
B. Put the photos in the post in the following order:
Top of post: the triptych
Underneath the triptych: the three individual images.
THEN, IN THE SAME POST as your final triptych and individual photos, add the following underneath THE TRIPTYCH:
1. YOUR GUARANTOR POWERS
A. Explain your guarantor powers, and why you chose them/it.
B. Explain the power that these guarantors have over/about you.
C. List it like this:
Guarantor Power #1: __________________
Guarantor Power #2: __________________
Possible sentences to begin:
"GP#1 is a power that..."
"GP#1 controls my life in a way that..."
2. SYMBOLISM & MEANING
List all the subject matter in your photographs. Next to each symbol, explain the symbolism - AND HOW IT RELATES TO YOUR GUARANTOR POWER.
Remember: focus, lighting, spacing, composition can all be symbolic.
INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IN YOUR WRITING:
A. Explain WHY you made your choices for symbolism for that guarantor power.
B. Write what you INTEND for the viewer to 'see' in the symbol(s).
Example of how to write this on your blog post:
Make-up on my face = This symbolizes...Broken bicycle = I included this in the photograph to symbolize...
Apple = The apple is used in this way to represent ________ about my life/self...
The bubble = this represents fragility, and is meant to convey a feeling of...
Me, Out of focus = this represents the times I'm feeling unsure about myself and...
3. ARTIST STATEMENT
From the 40 questions below, choose TWO questions from each category to answer.
Your answers should be thorough, and leave nothing to the imagination. Assume you are explaining your GUARANTOR self-portraits to someone who cannot see them. What would you say? How would you describe them, and their meaning? Your responses can be straight-forward answering of the questions, but...you can also compose/write your answers into paragraphs that, when read as a whole, include the spirit and response to each question you choose.
